On 6 July 2012, officials in the Greater Letaba Municipality bade farewell to Mr Mavunda Watson who has been manager in that municipality since 2006. The goodbye event was hosted at Steve Mohale farm.

It seemed as though his colleagues wanted him to stay longer in the Department. Ms Mashele Gail, representative of Sekgosese Service Centre said, “Mavunda’s departure is a gain to him but a loss to us. We regarded him as a parent because he showed us how the job should be done and taught us to work as a team in order to make Greater Letaba a winner.”
Mopani Acting Senior Manager, Mr Nyandane Philetus said although it was a special occasion to Mavunda, it was difficult for officials to part ways with him. “As selfish as it may sound, it feels as if we are losing one of the department’s best assets. However we thank you for all the great things you have accomplished as it has put Letaba on the map. Country eggs project for instance, scoped a provincial award under your leadership,” he indicated.
Mr Mabunda showed delight in a manner that the LDA has supported him throughout his journey as the Manager. ”Indeed saying goodbye is not easy, yet it has to be done. I am thankful for the support that the LDA officials have shown me throughout. We were and still re a one big happy family,“ said Mavunda.
Mopani District staff presented some gifts to him as a token of appreciation for his contribution towards the district. Shining LandCare, food security and letsema projects will make Mavunda’s name remain in the Department.
